Your child’s kindergarten teacher is often the first touchpoint to their school career and our elementary school teachers work hard to develop a desire for joyful learning in our youngest learners. Each of our kindergarten classrooms has 2 teachers so that each student gets more attention. In each kindergarten through 4th grade classroom, we strive to create a fun, safe, and nurturing environment that offers social emotional learning and mental health support for all students. Our state-of-the-art classrooms allow students to engage in learning and play. It is here where our students develop the necessary foundation to prepare them for success in middle and high school.
We know that success in life depends on both academics and character. We help students foster character strengths that are essential for their own success and well-being. And we empower them to express their voice to improve the world around them. From student-led discussions, to analyzing texts, to researching and visiting local colleges, KIPP students grow by stepping out of their comfort zone and succeeding in new situations.
Central to our students’ success is great communication. Families will have direct access to teachers and we stay in touch frequently, sending positive text messages to caregivers about their child’s growth or helping students with homework when requested.
Our students demonstrate consistent growth in the classroom. In 2023, 100% of our eighth graders passed the Algebra exam and earned high school credit and KIPP Miami students grew significantly in math and ELA proficiency. From kindergarten to middle school and beyond, our team of talented educators is dedicated to making sure that every child succeeds every step of the way.
A 2023 study by Mathematica showed that KIPP middle and high school students are 31% more likely to complete college than their peers who did not attend KIPP. The study found the effect was great enough to nearly close college completion gap between Black and Hispanic students and their peers. Our dedicated KIPP Forward team of college and career counselors will support middle school students even after they’ve left our classrooms.
KIPP schools offer expert academic support teams that track student data and progress so that teachers can know exactly how to target education for student success. We choose top-notch teachers who want to be part of a close-knit, caring community whose sole focus is on the achievement of every student.
Our schools are open to all students, including those with special needs and varied abilities. Our dedicated team of special education teachers partner with students and their families to develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that supports every learner in reaching their academic and behavioral goals with a full range of service providers, we are able to meet your child’s needs as outlined in their IEP. We offer occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech services, counseling and opportunities for learning in the environment that best serves the student.
KIPP Miami has a whole-team, strategic approach to supporting the social emotional and behavioral health of our students. Students with IEPs, if needed, receive individual or group counseling services. School social workers support crisis intervention, provide guidance and consultation to school teams on effective academic and behavioral interventions, and support with linkage to community providers and partners for mental health support to address the ever-changing needs of our students and their families.
